While much of the debate on this side of the pond has been about the introduction, or not, of paywalls, an experiment into a rather more panhandling approach has just reached it’s conclusion in America.
In mid-December the Miami Herald launched a ‘tip jar’ to it’s website allowing readers to donate to the paper via a link at the end of each story.
But, as revealed in the Reflections of a Newsosaur blog yesterday, the experiment was finished over the weekend.
The paper’s editor Anders Gyllenhaal said it clashed with an appeal for Haiti, but interestingly the Herald has not revealed how much money the ‘tip jar’ collected.
