A remarkable story from the Newcastle Evening Chronicle as reporter Noleen Coltman reveals how she received a phone call confession to an 11-year-old murder.
The killer, Steven Hardy, phoned the Chronicle offices at midnight to simply confess, ‘I did it’.
Hardy admitted to shooting cannabis dealer John Hall in Gateshead in August 1999.
He then told her: “It’s been years now and I just can’t live with it anymore.”
Ms Coltman called police after speaking to him and Hardy was arrested at his home in Bedford.
On Thursday he pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court, allowing the paper to print it’s story.
