JP paywall trial abandoned

In the week News Corp announced the Sunday Times and Times would be introducing paywalls, Johnston Press abandoned it’s brief trial of them.
Insiders told HoldTheFrontPage that a tiny number of readers had subscribed to the sites of papers such as the Whitby Gazette and Southern Reporter during the experiment.
The subscription cost £5.
Other regional publishers including Trinity Mirror have been considering a similar move, although Archant seems to have ruled it out.
